WISDOM OF OUR ELDERS BY TONY TEN FINGERS

We are sitting at the crossroads in our respective communities. Sitting at the crossroads requires us to develop a new perspective, one which addresses the many concerns of everyone, just like a loving grandmother throws a warm blanket over the children who feel the bitter night chill. Her warm words are comforting.
Our Medicine Wheel teachings, born from these lands, have much to off er for those who feel they walk alone. There is action required when Grandmother throws the
warm blanket over you, but there is also warmth in the feelings expressed by her words. Both are valuable to you. Both touch your spirit, inspiring you to hold and remain steadfast.
It is time to dream of beautiful manifestations to come. You know that with the morning, the Sun will always bring hope. It has always been this way. Nature’s inherent wisdom instructs the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual realms for all. We must dream into an understanding of time and place, along with its effects on our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
What will happen when grandmother falls ill and she is no longer there to soothe your spirit? At that time, we will sit at the crossroad. We are sitting at the crossroad now. Fortunately, there are always answers and it has always been this way.
ABOUT TONY TEN FINGERS BIOSKETCH
My Oglala Lakota name is Wanbli Nata’u, Charging Eagle. However, my birth name is Javan Anthony Ten Fingers, commonly called Tony. I was born in the Drywood Community north of Oglala on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation. Early on, I developed a keen interest in our ancestors' understanding of time and place along with its transformative effects on our Indigenous physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Initially, this would inform me of our mental and physical health issues resulting from an ensuing loss of relationship with our Earth with family, the animal world, and Spirit.
