URANUS IN GEMINI BY PERNILLE ØRSKOV

Almanac-2026-Contributor-Pernille-Orskov

For the first time since 1949, Uranus enters Gemini. Because astrology is all about cycles—the small (like the moon cycle) and the very big ones (the Pluto cycle of 248 years and even greater beyond that)—it can be of value to go back in time and see what unfolded last time or the time before, to see a reoccurrence of the bigger themes. But it is just as important to be aware that Uranus is also part of a brand new cycle, and history does not always literally repeat itself.

Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac, an air sign connected to Mercury, the planet of communication, words, and understanding. It governs our nervous system. It is our siblings, neighbors, and everyday environment. Mercury is the only planet that often visits the "underworld," to come back renewed, with its 3-4 yearly retrogrades. There is always more to learn, more to understand, a higher perspective to integrate. Just as Mercury wants us to connect with the world around us with both our right and left brain, intuition and logic, it often also takes things apart to see the details, to put them back together in a new way. Gemini is a bridge builder and walker, and ultimately at the highest frequency is governed by Venus—by love and unity.

Uranus is the planet of invention, awakening, upgrading, and liberation of our individuality away from old oppressors, programming, or rules. It’s the planet of truth telling and technology, a great disruptor that catapults us into the future. It is like the earthquake that comes to test if the foundation of the house is stable or if we need to rebuild on a new and better foundation. And at the same time, it can cause great negative long-term effects due to its nature of not waiting and seeing the long-term effects of its inventions.

We saw Uranus in Gemini from 1941-1947 and again from 1859 to 1866. Both times we saw war in the US and Europe, wars around unification, and who belonged to whom, but not just unification—a unification towards principles of both freedom and more equality. Words like Union and United are used in both periods. People that were neighbors (US Civil War, Germany invaded its neighbor countries) suddenly fought against each other only to make peace again in new ways and create new unions. Both times we saw that these tower moments introduced us to new technology and even new languages (codes) that are the foundation of what modern technology is built upon.

Both times we saw a liberation of people and countries that were oppressed, owned (Taurus), or looked upon as objects in some places.

With that in mind, the consumer mentality (Taurus) that has infiltrated everything since the last time Uranus was in Gemini is up for review. To look upon each other on social media and dating platforms as commodities to be consumed, rather than people to connect with, we lose connection—we lose humanity.

We started this Uranus cycle in 2012, with Uranus in Aries, a year that for many was the starting point of a spiritual awakening with Saturn in Libra. This tells a story of a new cycle based on connecting this awakening to our relationships, to balance of the yin and yang, both the inner and the outer, to fairness and to justice, to reciprocity, to sustainability (Saturn is exalted here), and the importance of partnerships.

Uranus in Taurus in a lot of ways awakened us to the existing inequality on so many levels but also to our own value and resources. It has both destabilized our sense of security and given us an opportunity for greater grounding, and shown us very clearly where the equality, the reciprocity, and the understanding of partnerships differ. Taurus is self-contained and a very yin sign, and a lot of us have maybe felt our lives have become more introverted since 2018, especially after Covid. We have awakened to Mother Earth's powerful forces and maybe also to the importance of our bodies as the vessel for our human experience.

Uranus in Gemini now comes in and shakes it all up, since Gemini is a yang sign. It wants us to connect and see the truth on a whole new scale. Uranus here will probably create tower moments for us to see our own mental blind spots around truth and cognitive dissonance, to have us become more aware. The upgrades in our life will now come from new knowledge, expanding our understanding of the world through our connections and relationships, and not only in digital ways, and a greater focus on give and take and reciprocity in our relationships, not only consumption.

We have an opportunity to really learn that what we perceive as reality and what reality really is differ. Not only human to human, but also to see that a human reality in terms of vision, hearing, and sensing is just a fraction of what is there, compared to animals, for example.

Uranus in Gemini wants to connect us beyond our usual comprehension. Connect to knowledge we have forgotten. Understand that everything and everyone are always connected and communicating. For some it might mean waking up to our intuition and the unseen world. For others, that connection can expand to connecting in whole new ways to our pets, to nature around us, and even to the galactic.

As we all know, we all come from stardust, and maybe it is time to claim ourselves as galactic beings and deeply acknowledge what the human species is capable of, and learn that we were never here to dominate Earth but here to participate with it along with the rest of the species living here. We have massively underestimated our neuro-emotional intelligence, our somatic radar, and our relational field sensitivity. We've outsourced knowing to logic, algorithms, and institutions, forgetting we have internal systems more complex than any supercomputer. Intuition, imagination, body wisdom, ancestral memory, energetic boundaries. We have shut down entire sensory systems: emotional resonance, subtle energy perception, dream integration, even deep listening, because they don't produce fast results. But these are the technologies of the future. We are the only species who hurry and worry, instead of embracing slowness and being less serious (have you ever seen a serious flower?). And maybe it is time to remember that real leadership starts in the nervous system, that is the ancient oracle and our own built-in radar.

With a trine to Pluto and a sextile to Saturn and Neptune at 1 degree of Aries, an inception degree of humanity, as it dips its feet in Gemini in 2025, it shows us that not only will the next 7 years be deeply transformational for us as a human species but also expand our sense of reality.

And from late April 2026, it will show us where we need to wake up to a new set of values to create healthier and more sustainable relationships with ourselves, each other, and Earth. Because the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.
